The X10DR is a secure wireless microphone that revolutionizes the way you use two-way mobile radios. It moves the capabilities of a portable radio from your vehicle dashboard to the palm of your hand or your shoulder. Team members can communicate with their base and with other colleagues in the field via a vehicle-mobile radio at a range of up to 500 meters, or 1,600 feet, from the vehicle.
The X10DR is a complete mission-critical solution that allows users to remain in contact while outside the vehicle. Not only is it durable and lightweight, but it’s also affordable and easy to use. The latest versions of the X10DR include the Elite and Pro models.
Still wondering, “What is the X10DR?” Read on for everything you need to know about this mobile communication solution.
The X10DR Wireless Mic
All versions of the X10DR use Radio Over IP (RoIP), which provides push-to-talk (PTT) communications over the internet. They can also achieve over-the-horizon communications by connecting to the Explorer 323 satellite platform.
The Find Me Audible user locator can pinpoint an incapacitated user by pressing a button on the front panel of the vehicle’s charging cradle, which will cause the user’s microphone to sound an alarm. The wireless X10DR also has a duress button that silently calls for assistance in an emergency. The X10DR’s 1450 milliampere-hour (mAH) battery provides over 24 hours of operation between charges. The charging cradle can completely recharge the battery in less than four hours. It can also quickly top off the battery’s charge during rest breaks.
The second-generation X10DR Classic looks like the first-generation X10DR-XU1 microphone to maintain user knowledge and functionality. However, these models only function with their own gateway units.
The Pro is the third generation of the X10DR mobile radio communications solution. It provides all of the capabilities of the X10DR Classic, but it can also connect to a portable radio via a junction box. Users can choose to talk over the radio or “off-net” to other local users sharing the same mobile radio. All communications from the shared radio and connected users are always audible, including voice communications and alerts.
The Elite X10DR is capable of a dual handset setup that allows two microphones to operate simultaneously with a single gateway. This configuration has a lower cost than two separate handsets since it requires only one antenna, gateway, and junction box. It also eliminates the need for a second set of interface cables, although the second handset should have its own mobile charger. Elite microphones also provide dual access and control operations by connecting them to special function boxes. Buttons on the base of the gateway allow users to control the volume settings on the two units independently.
Elite models are designed to operate in demanding field conditions and have been ruggedized to withstand physical impact. They’re also engineered to provide Ingress Protection (IP) 67, which describes the level of protection against solid particles and liquids. The first digit refers to solid particle protection, meaning that the unit is dust-tight. The second digit describes liquid protection and indicates the unit is waterproof to a depth of one meter. Elite microphones also use 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which provides the highest level of security available for voice communications.
