Enables Remotely Located Equipment to Automatically Re-establish IP Connection Assuring Critical M2M Connections are Always On
Milford, CT- April 26, 2010 – Skymira LLC, a leading provider of business process solutions that offer real-time command and control capabilities for companies that rely heavily on remote field operations, today announced a new service utilizing a revolutionary IP Auto-Reconnect technology. The new offering, an extension of the firm’s highly successful Intelligent IP Controls service line, enables remotely located equipment communicating over Machine-to-Machine (M2M) networks to monitor for IP connection loss and automatically re-establish the IP connection.
Skymira’s IP Auto-Reconnect technology is compatible with Inmarsat’s BGAN satellite communication service and is available for use with Hughes 9201 terminals. The service is unique as it gives the remotely located machine the ability to re-establish its own network connection, without requiring any human intervention.
Equipment operating over M2M networks will typically lose IP connectivity from time to time. Once the loss can be detected, technicians traditionally have had to manually re-establish the machine’s connection. However, equipment located in remote areas requires that the technician travel, sometimes great distances, to perform this operation – resulting in unnecessary downtime and undue expense, with a significant potential for data loss. By allowing the machine to perform the task on its own, Skymira’s IP Auto-Reconnect technology offers businesses operating remote equipment major improvement in productivity and subsequent cost savings.
“It’s hard to believe but, up until now, companies operating remotely have had to dispatch service technicians to re-establish lost IP connections,” said Robert Landsfield, CEO, Skymira, LLC. “With our Intelligent IP Controls technology, these companies can now let the machines take care of it automatically, thus freeing up resources and significantly increasing their bottom-line,” added Landsfield.
“Solutions like that of Skymira’s Intelligent IP Controls are absolutely essential to effective, reliable control of the remote communications links that are vital in industries that depend on the ability to receive mission critical data from the field” said Mike Seery, Business Development Manager, Land Mobile Services, Inmarsat Global Ltd.
