SkyWave Mobile Communications -- a provider of two-way satellite communication equipment and services -- has announced the availability of GLONASS navigation capability in its DMR-800L satellite data communication terminal. The DMR-800L with integrated GLONASS provides the "unique capability" to compute its exact location using either or both the GLONASS and GPS systems, said company officials.
The dual navigation capability is expect to benefit fleet owners who are mandated to use GLONASS but do not want to incur the costs and reliability issues associated with the use of an external GLONASS module.
David Sward, vice president of marketing and business development at SkyWave, said that the DMR-800L with GLONASS/GPS allows fleet and vessel owners to address current asset tracking and monitoring needs with a low cost, reliable and GLONASS-compliant solution.
"MVS welcomes SkyWave’s GLONASS capable product as a very effective means of meeting Russia’s requirements for vessel, rail car and truck tracking," said Nadezhda Nesterenko, deputy general director for the Morsviazsputnik, Russia-based provider of Inmarsat (News - Alert) services.
SkyWave is a provider of Inmarsat-based satellite data communication equipment and services for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. The company said its products allow for dependable and low-cost tracking and monitoring solutions for the security and remote management of assets over land, sea and air.
In July, Skymira, a provider of satellite and cellular technology solutions for the seamless management of remote operations, announced that Compressco, an oil/gas compression sector company, has commissioned the firm to provide a monitoring solution utilizing over four thousand SkyWave DMR 800D terminals.
